Flew Meagan M., daughter of a friend from work and former 5th grade student of my wife Karin (of course she is 19 now - so that was a while ago), on an early morning flight before work. She has never remembered a flight in a small plane, although she said she has done it before. Her father, Jeff, says he soled a while back. I would like to see if Megan would like to get her private, instrument, commerical and instructor. Then... perhaps go on to be a pilot.
We flew down to Pebble Creek and then north to downtown Bryan and then back to the airport. I got .7 hours in this morning.
I got pretty excited this afternoon as I was told that I might be flying in a RV-8 (the plane that I am building). However, it turns out that - that wasn't entirely the case and I didn't get to fly it. I did get to sit in it and it was beautiful. So, as it stands, I've still never taken a flight in a RV - yet I'm building one... I'm nuts.
I made the right choice though - it had a fighter-pilot feel when I shut the sliding canopy and I'm going to love that plane.
I kinda felt a little like a third wheel today as I kinda invited myself with my friends, but it turned out good. Read more...
MarkO had no idea that we would be flying tonight - It all stemmed from him asking me if we wanted to go on a bike ride. I met him at his house with my flight bag on and he knew what we were about to do - ride our bikes to Easterwood Airport and then maybe take a flight.
We had a great time up and it was good to have MarkO in the air again - why again you ask? Because MarkO is a Private Pilot, but has not flown in about 3 years. We need to get him up again and start flying.... hopefully he caught the bug again this night...
It was a great flight and smooth air - nice night flight over the lights of our lovely city, College Station.
Like July 13 of the year 2005 - I have shaken off the rust, dusted the spider webs and cleaned out the dirt accumulation of my project that just sits and waits. I've gotten motivated recently to start it up again since my friend, JohnW, is starting to work on his wings again for his RV-9A.
I found where I left off and started to match-drill the rudder as seen in the picture to the left. Now, I can't wait to get in there again. I've got to take care of few items at home - then I can concentrate on building once more. Hang on little project... I'll be back (but it was good to work on it again).
EXTRA: 8/31/06 - Just announced that I actually made it(under the RV-8/RV-8A section) on Van's Aircraft website (the maker of the plane kit that I am building) - too cool!
Wow - what a great weekend - I got to fly to Austin with Olivier and his wife Julie. Olivier has been a great friend and I'm sorry to say that he is moving to Seatlle, where he got his dream job with Boeing. I'm actually pretty jealous about it - you go Olivier - God Speed!
When we got to Austin, we borrowed a car from the FBO and hit the Texas Land and Cattle steak house - my treat for the flight. It was a wonderful night and I even got to fly on the way back home. It flew great - I just wish I could have logged the hours.
The day after I took a night flight, I took two of my friends from work out for lunch to brenham. This was JeffM's (shown right talking to a waitress) first time flying with me but he does have some hours. Reggie (shown here to the left - chilling out), has just joined the Flying Aggies Flying Club and he will soon be getting some hours. I can't wait to fly along side of him after he solo's. It was a - very - hot day and it took a while to take off in the dead of the heat. Ugh...
Ah - what a great night flight. I took 124 and flew with JohnW beside me in another plane. We practiced engine outs and some touch-n-goes (4 of them) and then 3 full stops to make sure we were both night current. It was a great flight and a wonderful night - I need to do this more often.
BFR! with Celine, my flight instructor. We practiced slow flight and stalls along with emergency procedures. We even got to do a few chandells, lazy eights and a some other manuevers. We practiced cross-country planning and deviation. I even got a "great job" at the end along with a quote of a "... that might be the best soft-field landing I've seen in a Cessna..." - hey cool - Giddy up! and thanks for the compliment Celine!
Of course, I owe it all to Andy Fay, my old instructor - and my original instructor - he taught me well - thanks Andy!

Wow! I actually just flew in the patter for 2.4 hours!
After an hour and a half of flying around - just doing touch-no-gos and landed for a full stop. Then I see Karin and the kids waiting there at the passenger area waiting for a ride. Too cool! I'm now certified to fly passengers and here are 3 of them waiting to go.
I shut down and took each one of the them up one by one, as I was flying one of flying club's two seaters. Ross was first, then Ryan and finally Rhett. When it was all said and done - I had 2.4 hours - but it was well worth the time.
Galliano is seen here cleaning up the steel slate that we use for the back-riveting.
I finished by verticle stab right before the holiday and completed the stifferners for the rudder. We have to clean the steel slate up so that I can back-rivet the rivets on the rudder.
Into the distance, a ribbon of black
Stretched to the point of no turning back
A flight of fancy on a windswept field
Standing alone my senses reeled
A fatal attraction holding me fast, how
Can I escape this irresistible grasp?
Can't keep my eyes from the circling skies
Tongue-tied and twisted Just an earth-bound misfit, I
Ice is forming on the tips of my wings
Unheeded warnings, I thought I thought of everything
No navigator to guide my way home
Unladened, empty and turned to stone
A soul in tension that's learning to fly
Condition grounded but determined to try
Can't keep my eyes from the circling skies
Tongue-tied and twisted just an earth-bound misfit, I
(to tower): Confirm 3-8-Echo ready for departure
(tower): Hello again, this is now 129.4
(to tower): 129.4. It's to go.
(tower): You may commence your takeoff, winds over 10 knots.
(to tower): 3-8-Echo
Easy on the brakes. Take it easy. Its gonna roll this time.
Just hand the power gradually, and it...
Above the planet on a wing and a prayer,
My grubby halo, a vapour trail in the empty air,
Across the clouds I see my shadow fly
Out of the corner of my watering eye
A dream unthreatened by the morning light
Could blow this soul right through the roof of the night
There's no sensation to compare with this
Suspended animation, A state of bliss
Can't keep my eyes from the circling skies
Tongue-tied and twisted just an earth-bound misfit,
