First flight 2009 - Good Friday

Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version
Pilot DaysGood Friday today - and I had the day off at my new job at TAMU Systems. I promised JohnW that I would fly with him today if I was lucky enough to have great weather and the day off.... so :)

I met JohnW in Caldwell where he was doing some landings in N5400J. I landed there with N93124 and then we took off to fly to Brenham where we stopped to get our only meal for the day. Some fried catfish - very good. We had to take off and land on new runways today (and deal with a little crosswind with gusts up to 18 knots). I got to take off on runway 28 at Easterwood today and then land on runway 04. Very nice to be back in the air. I got 1.2 hours total time.

A promise kept - High Temp below 70 degrees - flight after work

Pilot DaysWhat a great day. Got away from work and a promise kept. My friend JohnW and I made a promise that as soon as the weather got below 70 degrees, we would fly -no matter what.

Well, after some prodding from JohnW - I needed to keep my promise. We flew right after work. I was in 5400J and JohnW took ole Kramer (1tK) and flew while chasing each other.

Great flying day - did 4 landings and current again for VFR day. .7 hours in the air.

Fourth of July flight with my friend JoeS

Pilot Days Took a flight today for the Fouth of July and took some aerial photos of Joe's house in the country to the East of Coulter Field. We landed at Coulter Field to take a potty break and to snap this picture. After taking off, we flew over the Wheeler Ridge subdivision to fly over Joe's kids house. Then back to Easterwood for a full-stop and I got 1.1 hours today.

Got some more aerial photos with Dad, Rhett and Ryan

Pilot Days We got the digital camera charged up and was ready to take some more aerial photos of my father's house - which is on the right base of Runway 34. However, Mike was in the tower and he made us stay at 1,800 MSL. Which is 1500' AGL - not good for aerial photos. I requested 500' to 1000' since it is mostly an unpopulated area - but Mike is the boss and we had to comply. I'm thankful of his help while we were there, but I would have loved to had been closer to the target for pictures.

Rhett and Ryan got to get a little of zero g (for about 1 second) and they had a good time as seen from the picture. I got another .6 hours today and 1 more landing.

Sunday morning flight with Dad, Lamar and Ross for aerial photos

Pilot Days Flew with my dad, Lamar (my brother) and Ross trying to take pictures of their house. All we got was this one picture from my Palm Pilot because the batteries were dead in the digital camera (which I was supposed to check the night before). Ugh... We got .5 hours with one landing but did some baby roller-coasters for a little zero g for Ross - which made my brother a little woozy - but we landed and that was that.

BFR Finished up - I'm a certified private pilot again

Pilot Days Well, after another 1.5 hours on the ground with cross-country training completed (with a cross country planned to Mexia LXY) and then a diversion to the Hearne LHB where we did emergency landings. Soft field take off and lazy eights were also done as well as an emergency decent. We then traveled back to Easterwood for a soft field landing. I received another 4 landings and 1.4 hours in flight.

Got to fly in a Van's RV 7 today - with my friend Tim K.

RV-8A Building I finally got to fly in a Van's RV - the plane that I am building. A different model, this one was a side-by-side model called a 7. Tim K., a friend of mine, actually started building this plane and the same time that I did... Except he was serious and got it completed while I only dream about it. Oh well - maybe someday.... I am just glad that Tim took me up.

BFR Start - wow - 14 months have gone by with no flying

Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version
Pilot Days Wow - 14 months have gone by and I had to do my BFR - bi-annual flight review. Celine, my instructor, went over ground stuff for over one hour and then we did another 1.0 hour in the air. We did stalls, slow flight, steep turns and basic instrument covering .3 hours of simulated instruments. We performed some crosswind take offs and landings as well today. Did 1 landing with the one hour in the air. We are less than half way done with my BFR - so I can't fly just yet (at least as PIC).

Night flight - 4 full stops

Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version
Pilot DaysI flew a night flight tonight. Did 4 Full stops then picked up my friend Brian B. for the last 20 minutes of the flight. We flew up to 6000' so I could show him that you can see Austin and Houston from that altitude. We had a good time and little did I know, that would be my last flight for some time.... I got 1.1 hours with 4 full stops.

Pilot Days Dave W., a friend that I met at work from UHS in Minnesota, wanted to go fly so we took a 2 hour lunch break and got some flying in. We used 5452D and even got to see some rain clouds today. I got .4 hours in over town.
